The Candidate Who Doesn’t Want Your Job.

Heading (2)

Here’s a recruiting reality worth remembering: The best candidate may not actually need your job.

  • They may already be employed.
  • They may be comfortable where they are.
  • They may have multiple opportunities.
  • They may simply be curious about what’s out there.

And that changes the conversation.

For years, we’ve taught candidates how to answer:

“Why should we hire you?”

But employers need to be prepared to answer a question too:

“Why should I work here?”

Candidates are evaluating your company just as much as you’re evaluating them.

They’re thinking about leadership. Culture. Flexibility. Compensation. Growth. Workload. Stability. Commute. Autonomy. And whether the opportunity actually makes sense for their life and career. A good offer isn’t necessarily the same thing as a good opportunity.

If you’re struggling to attract strong candidates, the answer may not be another job board, another recruiter, or another round of resume searching. It may be time to ask: What makes this opportunity worth choosing?

Because the hiring conversation isn’t one-sided anymore.

It never really was.
